Hi,

Cat On The Moon is a style blog written by me, Cat, about the process of curating a capsule wardrobe and different ways to achieve a simple and thoughtful lifestyle. I try to keep in mind that simplicity is a journey and a life well lived is the goal.

Wardrobe Must Have: Moto Jackets

Wardrobe Must Have: Moto Jackets

If it were realistic, I would buy a different moto jacket for every day of the week. A moto jacket adds instant style to any outfit and is an absolute no-brainer as an item or two in my wardrobe.

It's also a huge confidence booster.

People just instantly assume you're stylish and powerful when you're wearing one of these things. And it's completely fine to fake it until you feel it.

In fact, there have been studies that show if you start with a smile, you're more likely to feel some happiness. Or have you ever heard of the Wonder Woman Pose? Think Beyonce.

My hypothesis?

Throw on a moto jacket and proceed to kick ass. In a metaphorical way.

Remember: A body in motion tends to stay in motion. That's maybe my one takeaway from middle school science class (also that sulfur is quite explosive when thrown into a lake).

We can apply that same theory with our emotions and actions. The motion. Not the explosion.

A person who works out is more likely to feel energized. A person who exudes confidence is more likely to feel it.

Let's be those people. Let's wear moto jackets.

Pair it with skinny jeans and booties for an edgy vibe (my go to combo) or even wear it with ballet flats and a boat-neck striped tee for a classic and girly, yet confident look.

I also wear them to work to amp up my simple office outfits.

As we add pieces to our capsule wardrobe with these outfit formulas in mind, we vastly increase the capabilities of our minimalist wardrobes.

That's my science lesson for the day. Who knows, maybe I'll even throw in some math in the near future.

It's easier to act your way into a new way of thinking than it is to think your way into a new way of acting.

- Millard Fuller, Founder of Habitat for Humanity

I truly believe that developing our simplistic, capsule wardrobes will actually  elevate our confidence.

  • We'll begin to either discover or develop our personal style.
  • We won't spend too much time frozen by too many decisions.
  • And we will earn freedom from the time gained as we put our new-found resource (free time) towards other aspects of our lives that matter more than what we wear.

On that note, below are some jackets I am eyeing even though I already own two... Doing my best to practice self-control over here.

I have one from Express (which fits like a dream) in gray - they don't have gray any more, but the Panama Beige looks stunning. And I have an old one from ZARA, which they no longer sell, but their jackets have a great weight to them.

Shop My Picks

Do you have a go-to piece that instantly boosts your confidence? Or are you taking a plunge to the dark side of moto jackets?

Let me know in the comments!
